Minimally Invasive Surgery
General Information

Thanks to advances in fiber optics and video technology, surgeons can now view their work through tiny instruments, allowing them to perform operations through very small cuts or incisions. The smaller incisions mean less pain, quicker recovery and smaller scars -- three very positive benefits that explain the popularity of minimally invasive surgery.

Traditional gall bladder surgery, for example, once required a major incision. Recovery was slow and painful. Now, minimally invasive techniques allow surgeons to insert small probes, observe their work on a television screen and remove a gallbladder through a cut small enough to cover with a Band-Aid.

Physicians Medical Center Carraway Minimally Invasive Surgery is at the forefront of this new technology, using new surgical approaches for everything from repairing hernias to treating severe gastric reflux problems. And these new procedures are much easier on patients than traditional operations.

Of course, these new minimally invasive techniques will never totally eliminate the need for every traditional surgical procedure. But these techniques can be used by virtually every surgical subspecialty from neurosurgery to urology. Physicians at PMCC Minimally Invasive Surgery already use this revolutionary new technology to perform more than 30 different surgical procedures.

These procedures are done using one of the most advanced pieces of minimally invasive surgical equipment available. PMCC was the first hospital in Alabama to purchase equipment which fully integrates the endosurgical system, allowing surgeons to control all endosurgical devices directly from the sterile field and giving them better control over the growing number of endoscopic devices needed for performing minimally invasive surgery.

PMCC Minimally Invasive Surgery is an important part of our commitment to ensure its patients have access to new, life-enhancing technology.
